Noah Fifita Becomes Arizona’s All-Time Passing Leader — Without Leaving
Noah Fifita had already built one of the best quarterback careers in Arizona history.
Saturday night, he made it official.
Fifita completed 31 of 34 passes for 325 yards and four touchdowns in Arizona’s 42-17 win over Northern Illinois, finishing the night with 10,017 career passing yards. That pushed him past former Wildcats quarterback Nick Foles, who held the school record at 10,011.
For good measure, Fifita also ran for a 30-yard touchdown, giving him five total scores on the night.
But the number that may say the most about his career is not 10,017.
It is one.
One school.
A Record Built at Arizona
Fifita arrived at Arizona in 2022 and has remained there through coaching changes, the transfer-portal era and a college football landscape in which quarterbacks routinely move in search of a better opportunity.
Arizona lists Fifita as one of only a handful of senior or redshirt-senior FBS quarterbacks who have spent their entire college careers at the same school.
That makes the record especially notable.
The University of Arizona reported that Fifita broke Foles’ mark with a seven-yard completion to Isaiah Mizell late in the fourth quarter. Arizona immediately called timeout, allowing his teammates to celebrate with him before he left the field.
Fifita also extended his Arizona career record to 80 touchdown passes.
Polynesian Excellence at Quarterback
Fifita, who is of Tongan ancestry, has long been part of a growing group of Polynesian quarterbacks succeeding at the highest levels of college football.
He was a 2022 Polynesian Bowl participant and was named a finalist for the 2025 Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award. He is again on the award’s 2026 watch list.
For Pacific athletes and families, his career is another reminder that Polynesian football excellence is not limited to the positions traditionally associated with island players.
Quarterbacks like Fifita are reading defenses, running offenses and rewriting record books.
There Is More Than One Way to Build a Career
The transfer portal has created opportunities that players from previous generations never had. Sometimes leaving is absolutely the right decision.
Fifita’s story shows the other side.
Development can also come from staying, competing, building trust and allowing years of work to compound.
His record was not created by one huge season or one breakout Saturday night. It was built throw by throw, practice by practice and season by season.
Arizona once recruited Noah Fifita because it believed he could become its quarterback.
Four years later, no quarterback in school history has thrown for more yards.
