American Football IQ Weekly Quiz: Player Identification

This week’s American Football IQ quiz is about one of the first things every player and family should understand:

Who is who before the ball is snapped?

This Week’s Question

In most offensive formations, which player is typically aligned split away from the formation near the sideline?

The Answer

X receiver.

The X is often the split end receiver. In many formations, he is aligned away from the core of the formation and is commonly on the line of scrimmage.

That makes the X one of the easiest offensive players to spot once you know what to look for.

Why It Matters

Football gets easier to understand when players can identify positions, alignments and responsibilities before the snap.

That is the idea behind American Football IQ.

Each card gives athletes, parents and coaches a simple way to learn football language faster — from player identification to formations, coverages, fronts and more.
